The black box, VR Bengaluru is a common shopping destination and Whitefield arms, part of it, another major party rendezvous in Whitefield. Didn’t really realize that there existed this gem of a place, Alt bar, at the skydeck of The Waverly, my fine dine rendezvous one fine evening that literally swayed my mind.
The Waverly is a 4.5 star property part of VR Bengaluru, very beautifully visible from the main road. On its high ‘Altitude’ skydeck, lies the Alt bar, a serene beautiful place imbibed with freshness of cold natural breeze and view of bangalore’s concrete jungle life.
Alt bar is primarily a drinking place, accompanied with serving of bar bites and no proper 3 course meal.
Its menu lists out items from global cuisine that are essentially finger food but good enough in quantity to satiate one more than required in a order of two dishes. They have their signature cocktails and classics, along with regular liquor.
What I really loved was how economical they kept every dish, completely overthrowing the image of a hotel resto-bar being unnecessarily expensive.
The main feature of the ambience is the cold breeze, so lovely in the cold nights, sometimes they have to provide shawls to shivering patrons. They have one running fire podium in the centre which adds a royal and classy look the place.
I would have been happy with this much but no, they have more to please us with their ambience.
A long pool at pool deck area, looking lavish blue at night, sitting next to it and dining, what more could anyone ask for?
And finally the seating under the canopy tent, three of them overlooking Phoenix , these had a long counch with two big cushions, we were supposed to remove our shoes, fold our legs and keep the wooden tray board in front of us on the main couch, munching our meals over it. I think I have never had such a royal seating experience before Alt.
There were other regular long table seating as well as well lit couch seating, shining in its red-yellow hue.
FOOD and DRINKS
Finally let’s talk about the food.
Honestly this is one of the most delicious chicken starters I have ever had in my life. Such divine preparation of a chicken wing stick. It had crispy crumb outer layer and subsequent soft chicken flesh inside with spices infused through. It was stuffed with nuts, apricots and cheese with chilli spice. The accompanying Marie rose dip made it even better, topped on the other half of pieces as a yolk similarity, this had good consistency and fresh flavor.
So this resembled more like a quesadilla, with tortillas having minced chicken in between. The minced chicken was a several pack of layers infused with spices and micro veggies and stuck so well that the whole eating experience was without any mess. Served with delicious labneh.
°Truffled macaroni fondue°
So this mac and cheese was basically blend of three cheese, and hence on the sweeter side. It was served with sweet breads which could be replaced with garlic bread, as we requested for and got, and loved it henceforth.
°Champinones Portobello Romesco°
This was a rather soft and breaking kind of cylindrical Patty. It had parmesan stuffed Portobello mushrooms with a very fresh and sober appeal. Was served with red pepper sauce.
This was a sparkling wine based drink with passion fruit gin and grapefruit bitter. Mildly alcoholic and can be topped up on request. Quality was less as it was served in a more tapered Martini glass.
This was a rather beautiful and delicious drink. And why not? Vodka based drink with cranberry and frozen black berry mix and topped with orange campari foam. I loved it.
As such no desserts are available in the menu, but on request, the staff won’t hesitate to serve you some from the main hotel kitchen.
SERVICE and COSTING
The staff is well trained and groomed, always in uniform. The manager addressed all our issues and ensured we had a pleasant dining experience. Costing is economical for the food and medium expensive for the drinks. Vegetarian is however more costly than non veg, which is unusual.
Overall this place is a win-win for me and I would love to visit it again.
