Monkey bar is one of the oldest pubs of Indiranagar and still stands out as one of the most sought for places to party in indiranagar. Located on the 12th main towards 80ft side, monkey bar served a global cuisine with a fusion. We visited during the IPL season when they have clearly redone their menu to suit the IPL fever as well as the mango season. A new dessert menu was put in place having all the mango flavor items, a set back was that they removed regular desserts and I was craving for chocolate at that moment. So a thumbs down for not blindly putting all mango desserts. Modified additional menu was put on light bat to celebrate the IPL feeling.
The place is double floored. Ground floor has limited seating and is mostly spacious and open, probably fulfilling for the dance floor needs. The DJ console is located separately. The first floor has major seating and separate smoking area. Seating is mostly group oriented and has metallic or wooden chairs with couch base. Very retro kind of photo frames displaying random stuff and movie buff were placed on cement finish walls. Very less ‘monkey’ touch was in place. One downside was the narrow round metallic staircase which appeared dangerous to walk down being half drunk, very accident prone.
FOOD and DRINKS
This was a heavy and very full filling dish. Served with six toated breads, aloo burjee mix with paneet cubes topped with cream didn’t render the real authentic taste, but anyway tasted good and very sober. It was low on spices and hence good for some. Quantity was satisfactory.
A very innovatively presented dish, this was a decent try. It had the regular chilli chicken flavor, however the sweetness was little overpowering and after few initially bites, it was a drag. The outer butterfly shaped crust was nice crisp and overall the dish was very satiating, rather heavy.
°Butter chicken khichdi°
Never heard before dish and a must try at monkey bar. Regular tasting mildly spiced khichdi with sauteed chicken crumbs in large number was served with papad, mixed pickle, veggie raita and salad. Overall this dish was a great try and really delicious for someone looking for a fusion indian touch.
°Chilli paneer soulful bowl°
Finally looking for something veg in an otherwise low on veg-dishes menu, landed to soulful bowl for main course. It had raw salad veggies like carrot and cucumber cut in length as well as sauteed veggies tossed in sauce. Chilly panner flavor was rendered from the paneer dish served along with centrally placed rice. Overall a decent try.
Another item from their Indian fusion box, this was curry leaf flavor drink with absolut Vodka. The flavor of curry leaves was actually very overpowering.
This drink was rightly spiked and not at all dilute. Lemony and cranberry touch was evident and was served in a good portion.
SERVICE and COSTING
Service could be improved. Escorting to tables should be made a practice as it avoids unnecessary confusion. The staff appeared somewhat untrained and the new boys kept running to senior ones to clarify our requirements. Costing is towards medium expensive side, mostly worth the taste and quantity served.
