Ahlan wa sahlan! Biryani blues is a leading chain in Delhi, specialising in serving good range and variations in Biryani .They are currently 26 outlets spread across Delhi NCR. They specialise in chicken and mutton biryanis, but that’s not it! They do serve savouring Vegetarian dishes like paneer 65 along with their signature veg Biryani too.
Location and Ambience
This outlet I visited is located in the heart of Delhi – ‘The Connaught Place’, next to Scindia house (outer circle) and close to metro exit gate 5. The outer appearance is subtle and shady. There is a whole new world when one gets inside .The handcrafted wooden shells containing the lamps ensures to greet visitors with warm shade of glimpse around. The rim wheels on the ceiling of frontal facade also make sure that the customer is not only delighted but also intrigued, to check the newness at least once, in the menu and service overall. The outlet has got two floors to accommodate a decent crowd of 80 or so.
Food & Drinks-
Fresh Lime soda and Masala Shikanji
The Food explorations always starts with Drinks to make the throat wet, to easily gobble the good food . Fresh lime soda (4/5) was very usual one gets at roadside .Masala shikanji (3/5) was a packaged Drink (they don’t prepare it fresh).
For main course, we ordered two meals one veg and non veg each. Veg meal included Veg Biryani,Paneer 65, Salan ,Raita and Non veg meal comprises chicken Biryani ,Chicken Nizami along with Salan and Raita.
Paneer 65(5/5) – The cottage cheese marinated with garlic and ginger paste, tossed in spicy dry gravy is a must for all vegetarians in the town. The taste is so appropriate the one doesn’t feel the water and tastelessness inside, the spicy dry gravy takes care of it very well.
Vegetable Biryani(5/5)– The blend of spices and veggies is so perfectly cooked with rice, which is sure to get People love-struck with its aroma itself and later comes the absolute salvation bliss when one takes the spoon filled inside mouth.
Chicken Nizami (5/5) – It became obvious to share a friend’s testimony when he boasted about a particular dish I cannot eat. “The chicken marinated with corn floor, which was supposed to be hard, was really tender and the spicy flavour of the dried gravy did raise my expectations for this dish a notch higher forever.”
Chicken Biryani (5/5)- A special mention comes for the cooked chicken which is easy to eat even with spoons. Kudos to their cooking technique!
Mirch ka salan(5/5)- a perfect chilli gravy to accompany the palatable biryani.
Double Ka meetha(3.5/5)- This is a dish made of fried bread ,later cooked soaked in milk having cardamom and Saffron flavours, decorated with vark ( the filifree foil sheet of silver). The dish was nice except some blunder associated with it which obligates me to rate it less than the genuine rating based on taste.
Cost & service-
The drinks were on expensive side .They are charged way too less at roadside stalls which apparently are good in taste than what they offered. The meals are perfectly priced (economical) for the taste and quantity they offer. Sweet dishes too are also value for money.
The staff was courteous and friendly. The service was quick and flawless. High respect for the chef and manager for accepting the flaw from their end with regard to sweet dish.
Recommendations & Suggestions –
- The restaurant needs to broaden its beverages and drink menu .Also not all like packaged drinks!
- The music in the background didn’t suite the theme of restaurant .
‘I recommend this restaurant to all to quench their hunger with appetizing Biryani with a rating of 4.5/5 overall’
